Actually I don't think it breaks a "standard" so to speak, but I think it's
frowned upon (yes, I do it too.)
Check out RFC 1912 "Common DNS Operational and Configuration Errors" for all
kinds of faux-pas related to DNS. Also, RFC 2219 "Use of DNS Aliases for
Network Services" looks like it might be useful too.
