[lug-nuts] PCMCIA cards (silly newbie question #3)

I am about to make the plunge and try to hook my first
network, which will be between one tower computer and
my laptop (start small, I always say -- *real* small).
 My question is about drivers--can I buy any old
PCMCIA card or should I stick with 3-com or ??

Also--running Redhat 5.2, because I am not good enough
to tell the difference.
