Installfest Location needed
We don't have a regular location for installfests. If you can
arrange a location, let me know. Basically we need a place with
tables, and power. Everyone brings their own stuff.

Meeting Information
Regular meetings set for the second wednesday of the month
at Calweb, 7-9pm. Map and
Directions available.
Upcoming Events:
- Wednesday, October 13, 1999 - CVS and maybe GRASS
Location: Calweb
7pm - 9pm
Mike Machado will present CVS. I am looking at doing a GRASS
demonstration. I am going to let Mike go first this time, because
he always has the cool stuff, but we always seem to leave five
minutes or so for him. First I have to convert brie.com over
to Debian (It's just about done), and then I can embark on more
research with GRASS. I had GRASS installed before, but I erased
it when doing some other prototyping. GRASS info is available
at http://www.baylor.edu/~grass
. I hope to become more proficient with it before talking about
it. We could really use an experienced speaker on GRASS

- Saturday, October 16, 1999 - Installfest
Location: Innercite
11am - 4pm
Mike Machado of Innercite has volunteered
to host our October Installfest for LUGS. We get together and
help each other install Linux. It is BYOS. That means Bring Your
Own Stuff! That means bring your monitor too. Your reaction,
"It weighs fifty pounds!" Sorry dude, I haul mine around;
you can too. Make sure you bring your own Linux distribution,
power strip, floppy disks, keyboard, mouse. Mike has plenty of
hubs, so it won't be necessary to bring a hub. We will have a
few extra copies of Linux Distributions, but you are best to
find one before the meeting. Check cheapbytes.
Mike also has bandwidth available for downloading. Even though
we will help you with creating a dual boot system, chance that
you use another OS, we will not be responsible for any data
loss. I look forward to seeing everyone there.
Check this page for directions
to innercite.

Location: Calweb
7pm - 9pm
Chris diBona will present an organizer on steroids. Chris
works at VA Linux Systems in Silicon Valley. His organizer as
I understand incorporates a web interface along with numerous
other features

Mailing List implemented.
LUGS (Sacramento) now has a mailing list. Last meeting I announced
the list would be hosted at brie.com, but since Mike Machado offered
his expertise, I decided to take him up on his offer. Lug-nuts
at brie.com is online, but I plan on transferring the names to
Mikes list which he hosts at Majordomo@cheapnet.net. Until the
next meeting we will run the lists in parallel. Join and find
out the latest with LUGS. To subscribe send a message to Majordomo@cheapnet.net
with a blank subject line and in the body place:
To: Majordomo@cheapnet.net
Subject: <blank>

Linux Documentation
Basic Linux Info
You are invited to the Linux Users Group Sacramento (LUGS)
meeting. Linux is a UNIX type operating system. Among the heavyweights,
Linux has been adopted by Wells Fargo Bank, NASA, Cisco, PG&E,
and the United States Post Office for production applications.
Linus Torvalds began the original creation of Linux in 1991 which
is now supported by thousands of developers around the world.
Most Linux distributions are composed of software developed by
the free software foundation (http://www.gnu.org)
which started long before Linus. The source to Linux is open,
so it allows for complete customization. Come to the meeting to
learn more, or share your current knowledge.

LUGS is a special interest group of the Sacramento
PC Users Group. They provide us with liability insurance,
non profit status, a monthly publication which we can submit reports
to, along with the status of being part of a recoginized organization.
I would like to encourage everyone to sign up and become a member.
You will help support the group that supports our SIG. Dues are
$35 per year. If you would like a membership application, please
email me and I will mail you one. You don't have to be a member
of SACPCUG to come to the meetings, but by being one, you will
help support the continued progress of LUGS.

Volunteers needed.
Now that more people come to the meetings, we need volunteers.
You can make LUGS more like the way you want it by becoming a
volunteer. We could use volunteers in the following areas:
- Speakers (Got something you would like to show off at a LUGS
meeting. We are all ears.)
- Someone who can supply a PA system.
- Door prize procurer.
- Door prize donations. Got a copy of a distribution you want
to give away? bring it to the meeting
